

During excavation for our barn last March (it will have a two bedroom apartment in the loft), we ran into a ton of rock and a spring. The design was pretty location-specific, so the relocating it was going to require a big design change, so we just started over. Wendy took the lead on the redesign, and we got all into the idea of a timber framed structure, and that introduced some additional design work, and etc etc and we finally re-broke ground in November, poured our slab in January, and timber framed the structure in late February.
After the timber framers finished (it took them just two days, here’s a time lapse of Day 1), our carpenters came in to install the roof purlins, blocking, sheathing, and floor system. Our son Alex spent a good bit of his Spring Break up there with me. He has a decent amount of carpentry experience, and the two of us helped them wrap that work up. He also recorded this great drone footage.
At the moment, we’re waiting on Nino to show up and install the metal roof. He says it will be any minute.
When we are pretty confident of a completion date, we’ll add the barn into BBRRP™ as a reservable amenity.
